CID files charge-sheet in Kirti Kamal Bora shootout case

Guwahati: Assam Police has filed a charge sheet in connection with the July 5 Nagaon shooting incident in which Kirti Kamal Bora suffered severe gunshot wounds.

Police had claimed that when anti-narcotics squad stopped Bora, he allegedly attacked them, after which police retaliated and shot him on his leg. However, Bora denied the charges.

The victim’s father reported the crime to the police at Nagaon Sadar after the incident.

Later, the case was handed over to CID.

“After completion of investigation of the case, charge sheet was filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Nagaon against accused police officer namely SI(AB) Pradip Bania of Nagaon Dist Executive Force (DFF) under section 326/307/505 IPC R/W Section 98W/9901/99(5) of 1712 21120 Police act, 2007 for his complicity in the offence,” said CID in a statement.

After the incident, Bania had already been suspended and it was claimed that he had shot Bora in violation of the rules.

On the other hand, the CID also looked into the other case that had been filed on the basis of the FIR that Bania had filed against Bora and Zakir Hussain of Nagaon, with the accusation that drugs had been found in Bora’s possession.

“On completion of the investigation, the case was returned in Final Report vide Nagaon PS F.R. No. 866/2022 dated 03/2007/2022,” CID added.
