Guwahati: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) was recovered dead at a hotel in Guwahati on Tuesday morning.
The deceased CID officer has been identified as Nirmal Bhuyan.
According to reports, Bhuyan was recovered dead at Hotel Bhagaban in Bora service area of the city.
Reports claim that Bhuyan had spent the previous four months residing in hotel room 201. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
The hotel personnel said that although Bhuyan occasionally had visitors over the course of four months, nothing out of the ordinary occurred.
One of the employees reported that he was last seen on Sunday night.
Bhuyan’s family members suspect that he may have passed away from binge drinking because he was an alcoholic and had open heart surgery in the past.
Moreover, his wife informed that he had been residing away from his family for the previous few years as a result of a dispute between the two.
Later, Paltanbazar police reached the spot and took stock of the situation. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
