Clashes Over Disputed Piece Of Land Leaves 8 Injured At Tripura’s Killa
Guwahati: Tensions rose in Tripura’s Gomati district as a result of Monday’s skirmishes between two communities in the Killa area.
Eight persons may have been injured as a result of today’s racial conflicts.
According to reports, the incident was the result of a quarrel over a plot of forest land that quickly turned violent.
A local indigenous group said that the contested plot of land was inhabited by at least 28 Muslim families who claimed it belonged to the government.
However, the Muslim family that lived there asserted that they had authority to occupy the plot of land while the case is still pending in court.
According to Udapur SDPO Dhruba Nath, “There have been multiple instances where issues between these two populations have arisen over the previous couple of years.”
A police vehicle was also set on fire in the midst of the violent scenes that broke out as a result of the conflicts.
Security has also been increased in the area as a result of the incident to stop any more altercations.
The inhabitants of the Muslim village also asserted that they only struck back after being attacked with sharp objects.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
