CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Vows Stern Action Against ‘Internal Enemies’, Warns of Harsh Measures Over Pro-Pakistan Slogans

BAJALI/DHUBRI — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a fiery address during campaign rallies for the second phase of the Panchayat elections, issued a strong warning against those who he alleged support Pakistan from within India. Drawing a stark contrast between external threats and internal dissent, Sarma declared that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi would deal with Pakistanis outside the country, he would personally ensure strict action against any pro-Pakistan voices within Assam.

Speaking at Bajali on May 5, Sarma said, “Prime Minister Modi will handle the Pakistanis outside the country, but those supporting Pakistan within our borders — I will take strict action against them. I will not hesitate to thrash them and break their legs if required.” The Chief Minister claimed that over 40 individuals in the state have already been arrested for allegedly expressing pro-Pakistan sentiments, with further arrests anticipated.

Reiterating his tough stance, Sarma told a crowd in Dhubri on May 2, “If anyone raises ‘Pakistan zindabad’, we will break his legs.” He emphasised that the state and the country cannot accommodate individuals who enjoy the benefits of living in India but publicly praise Pakistan. “I have instructed the police that you should not look at the faces of those who say ‘Pakistan zindabad’, just arrest them as per law and break their legs,” he added.

Framing the issue as a matter of national security, Sarma warned that “enemies within” pose a greater threat than those beyond the border. He called on the people to show unwavering support for the Indian Army and to pray for the strength of Prime Minister Modi in combating terrorism globally.

In a sharp political pivot, Sarma used the platform to attack the opposition Congress, accusing them of fostering unrest. He urged voters to avoid supporting Congress or independent candidates whom he alleged were covertly aligned with the party. “We are preparing from this year itself for the Vidhan Sabha polls. If votes go to the wrong party, Congress creates unrest,” he claimed.

The Chief Minister’s aggressive tone signals an intensified political strategy ahead of both the Panchayat and upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, as he seeks to frame national loyalty as a central theme in his campaign.
