CM Manik Saha Writes to Amit Shah Over Bru Community Issues, Highlights BJP’s Commitment to Janajati Welfare
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday announced that he has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking intervention in resolving key issues faced by members of the Bru (Reang) community, many of whom are internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.
Speaking at the District Level Mega Campaign on Dharti Aaba Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan at Jirania Sub-Division, Saha said, “I recently met members of the Bru community and learnt about their difficulties. I have sent a letter to the Home Minister requesting immediate steps to resolve these challenges.”
He criticised the previous Left Front government for having “neglected” the Bru people for decades and credited the BJP government since 2018 for improving their living conditions through structured rehabilitation and welfare initiatives.
Key Points from CM Manik Saha’s Address:
• Bru Community Welfare: CM Saha emphasized the state’s commitment to supporting the Bru community and highlighted steps taken under BJP rule for their integration and upliftment.
• Empowerment of Janajati Communities: He said, “If we can’t develop the backward class people, then the development of the country is not possible.” He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for empowering Janajatis since 2014, citing the appointment of a Janajati President of India and a Janajati Governor in Telangana.
• Contrast with Pre-2018 Governance: Saha accused previous governments of using tribal communities as vote banks without ensuring actual development. “People have seen the scams before 2014 nationally and before 2018 in Tripura,” he said.
• Direct Monitoring by PM Modi: “Our Prime Minister personally tracks whether the welfare schemes are being implemented. We must ensure proper execution,” he asserted.
• Ongoing State Schemes: He outlined various beneficiary initiatives being run by the state government, including:
• Access to clean drinking water
• Hostels for Janajati students
• Multipurpose marketing centres for tribal communities
• Distribution of land pattas (land rights)
CM Saha’s remarks reinforce the state government’s ongoing effort to deliver inclusive growth and correct the historical marginalisation of tribal groups, particularly the Bru community, who have long struggled with displacement and lack of basic amenities.
