Gangtok: On the final day of the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced a slew of major infrastructure initiatives set to reshape the state’s connectivity and tourism landscape.

Addressing a gathering of locals, tourists, and dignitaries, the Chief Minister affirmed that the long-awaited Siliguri (Sevok) to Sikkim railway project is firmly on track for completion by 2027. Once operational, the rail link will significantly improve accessibility to the Himalayan state, marking a transformative step for tourism and regional commerce.

In a further push to enhance intra-state connectivity, the Chief Minister revealed that the government is preparing to begin construction on a new highway connecting Melli to Singtam. The new route is expected to ease vehicular movement and streamline transport services within Sikkim, addressing longstanding concerns over road congestion and travel delays.

Tamang also shared updates on the ongoing maintenance of National Highway 10 (NH10), a critical artery linking Siliguri to Sikkim. The upgradation work is progressing steadily, with the revamped highway projected to cut travel time between Siliguri and Sikkim to just two hours. The improvement is poised to benefit both residents and visitors, further supporting the state’s tourism-driven economy.

These infrastructure announcements underscore the Sikkim government’s commitment to sustainable development and improved regional integration, reinforcing the state’s position as a premier destination in the Eastern Himalayas.
