CM Sarma: Assam Govt to Rename Places in State, Portal to be launch
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the government will launch a portal for residents to make modifications to the names of localities around the state.
CM Sarma remarked that a place’s name should reflect its culture, heritage, and civilization.
He stated that a place’s name should not be insulting to any caste or community and that if it is, the name will be replaced.
Sharing the news on Twitter, Sarma wrote, “THERE’S MUCH IN A NAME Name of a city, town or village should represent its culture, tradition & civilisation.”
He further wrote, “We shall launch a portal to invite suggestions on change of names across Assam which are contrary to our civilisation, culture & derogatory to any caste or community.”
