CM Sarma Urges Centre for Swift Action on Stalled Majuli-Jorhat Bridge Project
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday pressed for immediate action from the central government to revive the stalled Majuli-Jorhat bridge project.
During a video conference with the Director General and Special Secretary of Road Development, Sarma underscored the urgent need to resume construction on the Rs 650 crore project, which has been idle since September 5th.
Highlighting the potential time and cost overruns due to the delay, Sarma urged the authorities to take swift measures to restart the project during the ongoing dry season. He had previously alerted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari about the issue, suggesting re-tendering as a possible solution if required.
The two-lane bridge, awarded in August 2021 with a December 2025 deadline, is crucial for the economic development and connectivity of the region. Ministry officials are currently exploring options to expedite the project’s revival.
