CM Sarma Visits Assam’s Dima Hasao to Take Stock of Prevailing Situation
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited to Haflong, the headquarter of Dima Hasao on Tuesday to assess the situation following the flood and landslide.
The chief minister visited to different damaged sites in the Haflong area as well as a relief camp at Lower Haflong LP School where 17 people were relocated after their homes were destroyed by the disaster.
Later, CM Sarma met with family members of three landslide victims in Hokai Punchi village and assured them that the government would assist them in rebuilding their home, followed by a review meeting with members of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, MLA, DC, SP, and other line departments at Circuit House in Haflong.
While addressing to media, Sarma stated that a central government agency will visit Haflong to perform a damage assessment study.
He also stated that a team of engineers would survey the damages, which include roads, bridges, and land, and that after receiving a detailed report, the government will gradually rebuild and construct the damages using new plans. Finally, he stated that the state government will shortly authorise an amount to the DHAC for the repair of minor surface communication faults.
Sharing the news on Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Along with leaders & officials, held a meeting with Dima Hasao District Administration to review the preliminary destruction caused due to landslide. Stressed on immediate resumption of full-scale transportation. Also laid emphasis on restoration of damaged roads.”

He also assured that both the Centre and the State will help NCHAC with adequate funds to tide over the present crisis. “Assured that both the Central and the State Governments will help North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) with adequate funds to tide over the present crisis. We are working to mitigate the risk due to landslides,’ he said in a tweet.
