CM Sarma’s Humble Gesture Wins Hearts After In-Flight Charger Incident
Guwahati: In a rare display of humility and accountability, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to express his sincere apology and gratitude to Deepak Kapoor, a 34-year-old resident of Sector 12, Noida, after a simple act of kindness aboard an international flight turned into a widely appreciated follow-up gesture.
The incident unfolded during an Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai, where Kapoor, a fellow passenger, generously lent the Chief Minister an international charging plug and cable. However, the items were not returned as Kapoor disembarked mid-journey in Dubai while the Chief Minister remained asleep. It wasn’t until CM Sarma reached Amsterdam that he realized he had inadvertently carried the charger with him.
Not one to let the matter slide, the Chief Minister publicly acknowledged the oversight on social media and requested the Assam Police to help identify and contact the helpful passenger. “Following my request, the Assam Police are currently working to identify and provide the contact details of the gentleman in question,” Sarma wrote, assuring that the matter would be resolved within hours.
True to that commitment, the Assam Police swiftly traced Deepak Kapoor, enabling the Chief Minister to make a personal phone call. In his update, Sarma revealed that he had expressed his heartfelt apology and offered to return the charger by courier. Kapoor, demonstrating graciousness, insisted that no such effort was necessary.
The Chief Minister also extended his appreciation to the Assam Police for their prompt and efficient action, turning a seemingly minor incident into a powerful reminder of mutual respect, integrity, and public accountability. The story has since gained traction on social media, with netizens applauding Sarma’s thoughtfulness and humility, along with the professionalism displayed by the state’s law enforcement team.
