COCOMI Alleges Engineered Violence in Manipur by Narco Terrorists

Northeast Desk, 17th November: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asserted that the violence erupting in Manipur on May 3, 2023, was allegedly engineered and pre-planned by Chin Kuki Narco Terrorists, led by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) and Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU). In a press statement, COCOMI claimed that the violence aimed to fulfill their long-nurtured dream of establishing a separate administration or an independent state, funded by profits from poppy cultivation, extortion, looting, and tax collection.

COCOMI warns that their call for a separate administration in Kuki-Zo dominated areas could worsen the volatile situation and disrupt the peaceful coexistence of Kuki-Zo people.

The committee emphasized that illegal immigrants are primarily responsible for the violence, echoing statements made by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishanker in New York.

COCOMI urged the government of India and the State to take appropriate action against individuals or organizations demanding a separate administration or self-government. The responsibility for the turmoil and ethnic violence in Manipur, according to COCOMI, should also be attributed to ITLF and CoTU.
