COCOMI Demands Resignation of Manipur DGP Over Security Failures

Northeast Desk, 7th September: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has formally demanded the resignation of Manipur’s Director General of Police (DGP) due to alleged inaction amid escalating security threats.

In a letter to the DGP, COCOMI criticized the current security measures as inadequate, particularly in the face of attacks by armed groups in the hill regions. The letter highlights concerns over the safety of civilians, who are reportedly living in fear due to ongoing drone bombings and aerial assaults by immigrant armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups.

COCOMI expressed frustration with the DGP’s failure to address these threats effectively, arguing that repeated appeals for decisive action have been ignored. The committee believes that a change in leadership is necessary to restore confidence and improve security for Manipur’s indigenous population.

The call for resignation underscores the committee’s dissatisfaction with the current approach to managing the state’s security challenges and emphasizes the need for a more effective response to ongoing violence.
