COCOMI Demands Resignation of Manipur Security Advisor Over Handling of Crisis

Northeast Desk, 7th September: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has formally demanded the resignation of the Security Advisor and Chairman of the Unified Command, citing severe dissatisfaction with his management of the ongoing security crisis in Manipur.

In a letter to the Security Advisor, COCOMI expressed strong criticism over the inadequate response to escalating violence from armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups. Despite a series of drone bombings and aerial assaults targeting civilians in the hill areas, the committee argues that the Advisor’s actions have been ineffective in addressing these critical security threats.

Somorendro Thokchom, Coordinator of COCOMI, accused the Advisor of allowing the situation to worsen due to inaction and inconsistent public statements. “Your inaction has allowed the situation to deteriorate further, and we no longer have confidence in your leadership,” Thokchom stated.

COCOMI’s call for resignation is based on the belief that new leadership is necessary to restore peace and safeguard the indigenous population. The committee emphasizes that the current leadership’s failure to provide a cohesive and effective response highlights a significant lapse in their responsibilities.
