Committee Probe Recruitment Scam Serves Notice To APSC Chairman
Guwahati: The newly appointed chairman Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury has received a notice from the committee established to investigate the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment fraud.
The committee established to look into the case, which is led by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma in connection with the CCE 2014 scandal, reportedly served the notice to IAS official BB Dev Choudhury.
Choudhury—who was named APSC chairman on August 18—was the principal controller of examination (PCE) when the scam occurred during CCE 2014.
Choudhury became the first-ever APSC chairman last month. He came from an ACS background and eventually rose through the ranks to become an IAS. Dr. Ajanta Nath, who had been chosen for the position of in-charge, was replaced by him.
As many as to 67 people were mentioned in the charge sheet that was submitted in the case in April of this year; 60 of them were candidates, and seven were APSC employees.
Former Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua had earlier stated that the investigation team will present its report within a month.
He also mentioned that a special gathering was going to happen soon. The report will be presented following the meeting, Barua added.
As many as 21 officers from the ACS and APS had been given notices to appear before the committee.
According to reports, the committee will need everyone of the 2014 class of officials to appear. Of the 21, some had already been detained in connection with the case.
