Cong Leader Jaiveer Shergill Resigns as Party Spokesperson

Guwahati: Congress leader Jaiveer Shergill on Wednesday submitted his resignation as the party’s national spokesperson, alleging that the decision-makers’ vision was no longer in line with the ambitions of the younger generation.

Additionally, he claimed that while public and national concerns were being disregarded, self-serving objectives were taking precedence.

Shergill sent his letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

“The primary reason being that the ideology and the vision of the current decision-makers of the Indian National Congress is no longer in sync with the aspirations of the youth and modern India,” Shergill said in his letter as reported by ANI.

“Moreover, it hurts me to remark that decisions are no longer made in the public’s and the nation’s interest. Instead, it is influenced by people who have self-serving objectives and habitually ignore reality while engaging in sychophancy. I cannot morally support this or continue to work with it ” he added.

Shergill, a key member of the new generation of Congress leaders, is a lawyer by trade. He hails from Punjab.

Shergill’s departure occurs at a time when a number of his bright young leaders in Congress have defected from the party. Among the prominent Congress leaders who have left the party are Jyotiraditiya Scindia, who is now a union minister and Jitin Prasada.
