Congress Accuses BJP of Attacking Youth Leader’s House

Agartala: The Tripura Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attacking the house of its youth wing leader, Sahajan Islam, and beating up his family members in West Tripura district. The alleged attack occurred after Sahajan criticised Chief Minister Manik Saha on social media.

According to the Congress, over 100 BJP and Yuva Morcha supporters armed with weapons entered Sahajan’s house at Shantipara, ransacked the property, and physically assaulted his parents and wife. Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha claimed that the attack was a result of Sahajan’s Facebook post criticising the Chief Minister.

The situation escalated, with Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman facing protests from Yuva Morcha supporters when he rushed to the spot. A strong police contingent was deployed to bring the situation under control. Sahajan had criticised the Chief Minister on Facebook Live after a vehicle carrying cattle was detained by a mob during Eid Al-Adha.

The Congress demanded the arrest of those involved in the attack on Sahajan’s residence and his family members. Roy Barman claimed that the attack showed that “mafia raj” was prevailing in the state, and the government was autocratic.

The BJP strongly reacted to Sahajan’s Facebook post, lodging an FIR against him for allegedly defaming the Chief Minister. Ashim Bhattacharjee, the BJP Sadar (Urban) district president, demanded Sahajan’s arrest, stating that the Congress leader’s remarks were highly objectionable.
