Congress Adjusts Venue After Manipur Denies Ground Permission for Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra: KC Venugopal
Northeast Desk, 10th January: Hours after the Manipur government denied ground permission for Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra,’ originally scheduled to begin in Imphal on January 14, Congress leader KC Venugopal responded to the development, indicating that the event would proceed in Manipur but from an alternative location.
Expressing his concerns, Venugopal stated, “…We received information that the Government of Manipur declined our request to hold the yatra in Palace Ground, Imphal…When we are embarking on a yatra from East to West, it’s essential to include Manipur. Starting the yatra from Manipur sends a crucial message to the people. We are determined to commence the Yatra in Manipur from a different location, and further details will be announced later.”
Simultaneously, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President and senior Congress MLA K Meghachandra lamented the government’s decision, deeming it unfortunate. Following the denial, the venue has been shifted to a private location in Khongjom, Thoubal district.
Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharghe is slated to inaugurate the yatra, which will traverse 14 states and 85 districts. The event will feature a combination of foot marches and bus rides.
