Congress Alleges Covert Alliance Between Akhil Gogoi and State Government Leaders

Guwahati: The political landscape in Assam has been stirred by allegations from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President, Bhupen Borah, who claims that Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi is operating under a clandestine agreement with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister Pijush Hazarika. Borah’s assertions have brought into question the authenticity of Gogoi’s opposition to the state government.

Borah highlighted the striking synchronicity between Gogoi’s public pronouncements and those of the Chief Minister, noting that they often mirror each other within a remarkably brief timeframe. He described the apparent dichotomy between Gogoi’s conduct inside and outside the Assam Legislative Assembly. “While their exchanges within the Assembly are marked by intense verbal sparring, they are frequently observed engaging in private conversations inside vehicles,” Borah stated.

Further deepening the controversy, the APCC chief alleged that despite his public criticisms, Gogoi maintains social connections with Minister Hazarika. Borah claimed that Gogoi is regularly seen with Hazarika at a resort located in Kaziranga, which Borah alleges is owned by Gogoi. Borah suggested that this close association indicates that Gogoi is being swayed by the influence of Sarma and Hazarika, rather than being guided by the interests of the public.

“He was not like this before. This newfound closeness to these leaders is having a detrimental impact on him,” Borah asserted, implying that Gogoi’s political trajectory has been significantly altered by his dealings with the Chief Minister and the Minister. The implications of these allegations remain to be seen, as they cast a shadow over the dynamics of Assam’s political arena.
