Congress Alleges ‘Farce’ Elections in Tripura, Points to Voter List Manipulation

Agartala – The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has raised a serious alarm over what it calls the systematic dismantling of democratic processes, accusing the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission (EC) of “reducing elections to a farce.”

In a Monday press conference, the state unit’s spokesperson, Prabir Chakraborty, said the Modi government and the EC are allegedly using tactics like manipulating voter lists and misusing government machinery to turn elections into a charade.

Chakraborty claimed the party has now launched a statewide campaign to make citizens aware of these alleged malpractices and to encourage them to take steps to safeguard their electoral rights.

Speaking to the media, Chakraborty said that to “safeguard democracy” and ensure free and fair elections, particularly the upcoming Assembly polls, it is crucial to maintain “strict vigilance at every level.” He stressed the need to prevent the illegal removal of names of eligible citizens or the inclusion of ineligible voters in the electoral rolls.

The Congress leader appealed to all “secular and democratic forces” in the state to join the party’s campaign, stressing the importance of active participation in voter registration drives and opposing any form of vote rigging.
