Congress Calls for Gujarat Bandh Today Over Price Hike, Corruption Issue
Guwahati: The Congress party has called for a symbolic “Gujarat Bandh” to take place throughout the entire state on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 8 am to noon. According to a party official, the Gujarat Congress has called for a symbolic “bandh” in the state to protest against rising prices, corruption, and unemployment. At a news conference on August 26, Gujarat Congress in-charge Raghu Sharma made the same announcement.
The Congress party’s “Mehengai pe Halla Bol” demonstration last week in the nation’s capital precedes the “Gujarat Bandh” by a few days.
Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor made a call for traders, store owners, cloth market employees, associations, and small vendors to participate in the strike in a statement released on Friday.
“Inflation, unemployment and corruption have skyrocketed under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 27-year rule in Gujarat. People are suffering. Instead of giving relief, the BJP government has imposed GST on food items such as milk, curd and paneer,” said Thakor.
Thakor further instructed party members to prevent any property damage during the “Bandh” and to always have access to emergency services.
A Congress-backed union in Ahmedabad that represents auto rickshaw drivers announced it would take part in the bandh.
“Price increases, particularly in the cost of CNG, affect us as well. From 8 am to 12 noon, autorickshaws won’t operate on city streets, according to Gujarat Auto Rickshaw Action Committee president Ashok Punjabi.
