Congress Chief Kharge’s Open Letter to PM Modi Sparks Debate Amidst Lok Sabha Election Paradox

Guwahati, 27th April: Amidst the fervor of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Congress manifesto has ignited a contentious debate.

During a press conference in Guwahati, Kharge, currently on his campaign trail in Assam, asserted his parliamentary competency, stating, “I have spoken to PM Modi and not Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma because… It’s Modi… so I will speak to Modi why he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) is bothered about it… Let him face our people here. Then speak about me.”

This exchange ensued after Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma extended an invitation to Kharge to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in response to Kharge’s remarks urging PM Modi to review the Congress manifesto before engaging in discussions.

Sarma questioned the necessity for further meetings, emphasizing PM Modi’s proficiency in both English and Hindi and the comprehensiveness of the manifesto penned in both languages.

Kharge’s response came in the form of an open letter to PM Modi, shared by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, offering to elucidate the essence of the Congress Nyay Patra for the welfare of the Indian populace.

The exchange highlights the contrasting perspectives surrounding the role of manifestos and parliamentary discourse in the ongoing electoral narrative, underscoring the complex dynamics of the political landscape.
