Congress Confident of Majority in Jharkhand as BJP Faces Internal Struggles
Ranchi – Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has voiced confidence that the alliance between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress will secure a majority in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections.
Gogoi expressed optimism about the coalition’s chances, asserting that the alliance’s governance record resonates positively with Jharkhand’s voters, despite active campaigning by the BJP.
“The people are satisfied with the work done by JMM and Congress, and we are hopeful of forming a majority government,” Gogoi stated.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is serving as BJP’s co-in-charge for the Jharkhand elections, visited Jamtara on Tuesday to resolve party concerns arising from internal rifts.
Sarma met with veteran BJP member Satyanand Jha, who recently filed as an independent candidate after being denied a party ticket, posing a risk of splitting the BJP vote.
Acknowledging Jha’s longstanding dedication to the party, Sarma explained, “Jha ji became disappointed after we couldn’t allocate him a ticket, so he decided to run as an independent.”
Sarma further revealed that the BJP has offered Jha a prominent role within either the state or central government as a potential incentive to withdraw his independent bid.
Sarma emphasized the importance of BJP’s efforts to consolidate its voter base, remarking, “This election is crucial for the BJP to form the government in Jharkhand.” Jha is expected to make his decision after consulting with his supporters.
