Congress Confident of Winning Lone Lok Sabha Seat in Nagaland, Dismisses Exit Poll Figures

Northeast Desk, 2nd June: Amidst the anticipation surrounding the Lok Sabha election results, the Congress party in Nagaland projected optimism about its electoral prospects and its role in shaping the national political landscape. Dismissing the exit poll predictions as “imaginary,” Congress leaders expressed confidence in their ability to secure victory in the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland and play a significant role in forming the next government at the Centre.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kohima, Girish Chodankar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Nagaland, reiterated the party’s stance. He asserted that not only would the Congress clinch the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland, but the INDIA (Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance) bloc, with the support of other parties, would also secure a majority of seats across the country.

Chodankar highlighted the electorate’s discontent with “fake promises, misgovernance, unemployment, price rise, and inflation,” emphasizing that voters have chosen the Congress-led alliance for the nation’s future.

In a strategic move, the Nagaland Congress announced its decision to contest the upcoming urban local body elections scheduled for June 26. S. Supongmeren Jamir, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, revealed that the party plans to field candidates in most wards of the three municipalities and 36 town councils, excluding Eastern Nagaland areas.

However, the party remains open to contesting in Eastern Nagaland areas if the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) decides to participate in the civic polls. Aspiring candidates interested in contesting on a Congress ticket for the local body elections have until June 7 to submit their applications, according to Jamir.
