Congress’ Debabrata Saikia Filed Complaint Against AIUDF’s Ajmal
Guwahati: Debabrata Saikia, Congress MLA and leader of Congress Legislature Party in Assam Legislative Assembly on Sunday filed a charge against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MP Badruddin Ajmal at Simaluguri police station in Sivasagar district of Assam.
“Today I lodged a complaint before police against AIUDF Chief and MP of Dhubri parliamentary constituency Badruddin Ajmal for his derogatory statement against women. He is a Maulana and renowned person of Darul Uloom Deoband and Darul Uloom had a big contribution in the freedom movement of the country. But he made some unconstitutional, derogatory statement against women,” Saikia said.
It is noteworthy that All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal apologised on Saturday after making contentious comments about Hindus and claimed he didn’t mean to harm anyone’s feelings.
“I had no intentions of hurting the sentiments of any community. I deeply regret my statement. Being a senior leader, I should not have made such comments. I apologise to everyone hurt by my remarks. I am ashamed of the statements. All I want is for the government to do justice to the minorities and give them education and employment,” said Ajmal.
However, he asserted that population control should be considered.
Ajmal had stated on Friday that Hindus and Muslims should both marry off their children at a young age.
“Muslim men marry at the age of 20-22 while Muslim women marry at 18, as stipulated by the government. However, (Hindus) have one two or three illegal wives before marriage. They don’t give birth to babies in order to save costs,” the AIUDF chief said.
Ajmal said, “They (Hindus) should also follow the Muslims in getting their children married at a young age. Get the boys married at 20-22 and the girls married at 18-20 years and then see how many children are born.”
Assam BJP MLA Diganta Kalita slammed the AIUDF leader for his comments and suggested that he should move to Bangladesh.
“We are not required to take after him. The Lord Ram and Goddess Sita’s homeland is this one. Bangladeshis are not welcome here. We don’t need to take lessons from Muslims “Kalita stated.
