Congress demands arrest of Himanta, Ram Madhav under NSA
Guwahati, June 16: The Opposition Congress has demanded the Central government to get Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior BJP leader Ram Madhav arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) for their alleged involvement in taking the help of Kuki militant organizations to ensure the victory of the BJP during the election in Manipur in 2017.
The development took place after Chairman of Kuki militant organization, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), SS Haokip through an affidavit informed the National Investigating Agency (NIA) court recently that his organization and another Kuki outfit helped BJP candidates win assembly elections, in 2017 as per an agreement with Ram Madhav and Himanta Biswa Sarma. They also helped the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the affidavit said.
“UKLF is an armed secessionist organization. It is not only against the constitution of India if someone joins hand with an armed secessionist organization to come to power but also an unforgivable crime. It is sort of sedition to join hands with such an organization,” said APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah while speaking to media.
“If the same was done by any opposition party leader then he would have been arrested by National Investigating Agency (NIA). Why the Prime Minister Narenra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is silent on this? The affidavit by the UKLF to the NIA court has already made it clear that the Assam Chief Minister and Ram Madhav had taken help of UKLF to ensure that the BJP wins in 2017 Manipur elections,” said Borah.
The APCC president further asked if the Central BJP leadership has been favouring Assam Chief Minister HImanta Biswa Sarma only because of the reason that he is connected to all the secessionist leaders in the northeastern states and using them for the saffron party’s benift in the elections?
At least 12 political parties in Assam held a dharna in this regard in Guwahati and unanimously decided to send a delegation to meet President of India so submit a memorandum to arrest the Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Ram Madhav under the National Security Act.
