Congress Gears Up for Lok Sabha Elections in Tripura

Northeast Desk, 7th February: Szarita Laitphlang, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) national secretary and Tripura in charge, affirmed on Wednesday that the Congress party is fully prepared for the upcoming elections. Despite challenges, she emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to fighting for the rights of the people.

In a press conference held in Agartala, Laitphlang briefed reporters about the recent activities of the party. She mentioned that KPS Rana and Iven D’Souza of the AICC screening committee visited the state and conducted meetings with party members. These discussions included inputs from party workers who expressed hope for Congress’s participation in the Lok Sabha elections.

“We are actively seeking the viewpoints of every karyakarta, and based on their input, the screening committee will compile a report to be sent to Delhi,” she stated. The screening committee will convene another meeting in Delhi to finalize the course of action, followed by the Central Election Committee’s decision on candidates.

Regarding collaboration with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), Laitphlang mentioned that they are awaiting directions from the central leadership. The aim is to jointly contest the Lok Sabha election against the BJP, prioritizing the people’s rights.

Laitphlang emphasized the democratic process within the party, ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard. With over 200 workers participating in meetings, numerous names have been proposed for candidacy. These names will be shortlisted in Delhi.

In conclusion, Laitphlang reiterated that Congress is fully prepared for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and remains committed to fighting for the rights of the people, regardless of challenges.
