Congress High Command Huddles with Assam Unit for 2026 Poll Strategy

New Delhi: The top brass of the Congress party, led by President Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Rahul Gandhi, convened a crucial meeting with Assam Congress leaders in New Delhi today. The high-level parley was focused squarely on chalking out a robust strategy for the upcoming state assembly elections in 2026.

This significant gathering marks the first direct interaction between the party’s central leadership and the Assam unit following the recent change of guard in the state, which saw Gaurav Gogoi assume the mantle of the new Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief. The strategic discourse, held at the party’s newly inaugurated Indira Bhawan headquarters, underscores the Congress’s early focus on revitalising its electoral prospects in the northeastern state.

Also in attendance were senior party functionaries, including AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Jitendra Singh, the party’s General Secretary in-charge for Assam, further highlighting the importance attached to the discussions. The collective presence of these key figures signals a concentrated effort from the party’s central command to lend full support and direction to the Assam unit.

Rahul Gandhi took to Facebook to share glimpses of the meeting, posting photographs and a brief note about the engagement. “Today, under the leadership of Hon’ble President Mallikarjun Kharge ji, met and met with the newly formed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee members at Congress Headquarters Indira Bhavan,” Gandhi wrote, emphasising the collaborative spirit of the deliberations aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and preparing for the electoral challenge ahead.
