Congress Leader Accuses PM Modi of Avoiding Debate on Parliament Breach, Raises Questions on Mysuru BJP MP’s Role
National Desk, 17th December: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of evading a debate on the recent security breach in Parliament. Responding to PM Modi’s statement downplaying the need for a debate, Ramesh asserted that questions would arise regarding the role of Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha in facilitating the entry of intruders into the Lok Sabha on December 13.
“The PM is running away from a debate for a very simple reason. Questions will be raised on the role of the Mysuru BJP MP Pratap Simha in facilitating the entry of the intruders into the Lok Sabha on December 13th,” stated Ramesh on the social media platform X.
PM Modi had earlier characterized the incident as “very serious” and called for a “detailed investigation,” discouraging the need for a debate. In response, Ramesh clarified that the INDIA bloc parties are seeking a statement from the Union Home Minister regarding the incident.
“He says a probe is needed and not a debate, and that such a probe is on. All that INDIA parties are asking for and will continue to press for is a statement by the Home Minister on what happened on December 13th and how exactly it happened,” added Ramesh.
The security breach occurred on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks when intruders entered the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing smoke and shouting slogans before being overpowered by Members of Parliament. The ongoing investigation has resulted in the arrest of six individuals, with questions surrounding the facilitation of the breach and a demand for clarity from the Home Minister.
