Congress Leader Bhupen Borah Accuses AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal of Collaborating with Himanta Biswa Sarma to Secure Victory in Karimganj Constituency
Guwahati, 3rd February: In a twist of political narratives in Assam, Congress leader Bhupen Borah has accused AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal of aiding Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in securing the Karimganj seat. Borah alleged that Ajmal is supporting Sarma to ensure BJP’s victory in Karimganj, while Sarma is reciprocating by providing full support to AIUDF to win the Dhubri constituency.
Borah disclosed that although there were discussions with TMC regarding the Karimganj seat, the lack of understanding between TMC and Congress in West Bengal, TMC’s stronghold, made a broader alliance challenging. He further claimed that BJP would not field candidates in Dhubri to facilitate AIUDF, while AIUDF would contest in Karimganj to divide votes based on religion and secure a BJP win.
AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal had earlier expressed the party’s intention to contest in Karimganj, along with Dhubri and Nagaon, out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. The current MP from Karimganj is Kripanath Mallah of the BJP. The evolving political dynamics highlight the intricate alliances and strategies shaping up in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
