Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Questions Transparency of Manipur CM’s Meeting with PM Modi

Northeast Desk, 29th July — Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has raised questions about the transparency of a recent closed-door meeting between Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Ramesh, the meeting, which reportedly included discussions on the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, has not been accompanied by any photographs or public records, fueling speculation and concern.

In a post on X, Ramesh questioned the absence of visual evidence from the meeting. “This morning news has been put out that the embattled Manipur CM had a short closed-door meeting with the non-biological PM, in which the self-styled Chanakya and the Raksha Mantri were also present,” Ramesh stated. He noted that typically such meetings are documented with photographs, which are then shared publicly. However, neither Prime Minister Modi nor Chief Minister Singh has released any images from their meeting.

Ramesh also compared this situation to the photograph of Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu’s meeting with Modi, which was posted by the Prime Minister’s Office. This discrepancy, he argued, raises doubts about whether the meeting with Singh actually took place.

On July 28, Ramesh criticized Singh for failing to address the unrest in Manipur adequately, with citizens questioning whether the Chief Minister had a substantive discussion with the Prime Minister about the state’s violent situation.
