Congress Leader Mathew Antony Urges Sikkim Voters to Reject BJP’s Alleged Misleading Guarantees
Northeast Desk, 3rd April: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) national spokesperson, Mathew Antony, also the party’s star campaigner, has arrived in Sikkim to oversee the party’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections 2024.
Addressing the media in Gangtok, Antony urged the people of Sikkim not to be swayed by the alleged misleading guarantees and promises of the Modi government.
“People across the nation, including Sikkim, have been hearing about Modi Ki Guarantee, but those are all white lies, and we urge the people not to be misguided by such misleading guarantees. Today, the nation is reeling under an unemployment crisis, but the BJP government has failed to address it. Where is the BJP or ‘Modi Guarantee’ to resolve this burning issue? The lack of employment opportunities have led to drug abuse and a rise in anti-social activities,” he said.
Antony highlighted the skyrocketing rates of cooking fuel, petrol, and diesel, further squeezing the common masses with the addition of GST on these essential items. He also criticized the Prime Minister for failing to visit Manipur, which has been reeling under prolonged civil unrest. Antony accused the BJP of compromising institutions like the ECI, CBI, ED, and even the judiciary to suppress the opposition, as seen in the recent arrests of Chief Ministers Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal.
Asserting that the BJP has failed to meet people’s expectations, Antony predicted the party’s failure in the 2024 elections, with the INDIA alliance poised to form the next government at the Centre.
Regarding Sikkim, Antony emphasized the special constitutional provisions enjoyed by the state, protected under Article 371F. “The BJP government at the Centre has taken away Article 370, and people here cannot have confidence that Article 371F is protected under BJP. It is only the INDIA alliance that can protect the special rights and identity of Sikkim and Sikkimese under Article 371F. We urge the people of Sikkim to think wisely before casting their votes in the election,” he concluded.
