Congress leader Sushmita Dev Asks not to Distract Assam CM from Flood Crisis

Guwahati: Amid the political drama unveiled in Maharashtra, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sushmita Dev on Wednesday said not to distract Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from flood situation as the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde arrived in Guwahati today morning and are camping at Hotel Radisson Blu.

“I hear MLAs of Maharashtra coming to Assam as part of the poaching exercise. Parts of Assam are so flooded that there is no drinking water or electricity. Pls don’t distract @himantabiswa he needs to focus on this grave situation”, Sushmita Dev shared a tweet with images of flooded areas in Assam.

According to a recent report on the Assam flood situation, there was little relief for residents of the flood-affected districts, particularly in the western and southern regions of Assam, despite Tuesday’s nearly rain-free weather in much of the northeast.

Six fatalities occurred in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of flood and landslide fatalities since April to 88, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

According to a spokeswoman for ASDMA, 108,030.98 hectares of crops have been harmed, and 53.94 lakh people have been affected in 31 districts across 5,123 villages. The water level slightly decreased inside Kaziranga National Park.

The dissident Shiv Sena MLAs, some Independent MLAs, and senior Shiv Sena leader and minister Eknath Shinde, who were staying at the Le Meridien hotel in Surat, left for Guwahati in the wee hours of Wednesday. The Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra is currently facing a full-blown crisis as the Shinde clearly hosted by the BJP is building momentum to overthrow the government. The transfer from Gujarat to Assam took place in a matter of hours after two representatives from Uddhav Thackeray spoke to Shinde at his Surat hotel.
