Congress: Leaders at Sonia Gandhi’s home ahead of Big Post-Defeat meeting
Guwahati: The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group is gathering today to discuss the strategy for the Parliament’s Budget Session. The gathering is taking place in Sonia Gandhi’s home.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma, K Suresh, and Jairam Ramesh are among the Congress leaders who will attend the meeting.
The second portion of the budget session begins on Monday and will conclude on April 8.
The Congress Working Committee will convene later today to discuss the results of the assembly elections. The party lost Punjab to the AAP and was unable to capture any of the four remaining states from the BJP: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur.
Despite a high-profile campaign led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress only managed to win two seats in the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh legislature.
The party’s vote share dropped to 2.33 percent, and nearly all of its candidates forfeited their security deposits.
After the Congress lost its second consecutive defeat in general elections in 2019, Rahul Gandhi resigned as president. After an open revolt by a group of leaders known as G-23, Sonia Gandhi, who took over the leadership of the party as interim president, promised to resign in August 2020, but the CWC encouraged her to stay.
