Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Accuses BJP of Misappropriating Public Funds in Assam

Assam: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has alleged that funds collected through Goods and Services Tax (GST), cess, and other duties in Assam are being misused and misappropriated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, rather than being utilized for public welfare.

Taking to his X handle, Gogoi expressed concern over the prevalence of fake beneficiaries in the state and accused the ruling party of diverting public funds into the pockets of its members.

The MP claimed that the funds, which are meant for the betterment of the public, are being channeled into the hands of BJP party members, rather than being spent on development or essential services. Gogoi also raised serious allegations about the mismanagement of the PM-Kisan scheme, accusing the government of wasting “crores of public funds” through the fraudulent distribution of benefits.

Earlier, in November, Gogoi had drawn attention to the misappropriation of funds under the PM-Kisan scheme, referencing a recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). According to the audit, Rs 567 crore was disbursed to ineligible beneficiaries, and only a meager 0.24% has been recovered to date. Gogoi criticized the BJP-led government for its failure to support Assam’s farmers, claiming that the administration is depriving them of their rightful benefits.

The CAG report further revealed severe flaws in monitoring, data management, and eligibility verification processes, undermining the effectiveness of the PM-Kisan scheme in the state. These issues, Gogoi argued, are emblematic of the “double-engine” government’s mismanagement of funds and its failure to deliver on promises made to the people of Assam.
