Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Condemns BJP’s Remarks on Caste Census During Budget Discussion

Guwahati, 31st July: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has voiced strong opposition to what he described as “insensitive and cruel remarks” made by BJP leaders during a budget discussion on the caste census. Gogoi criticized the ruling party for mocking the demands of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities for a caste census.

“Yesterday’s discussion on the caste census saw a shocking display of insensitivity from BJP leaders,” Gogoi stated. “The demands of SC, ST, and OBC communities for a caste census were ridiculed, leading to their humiliation within the Parliament. It is deeply unfortunate that, later in the evening, the Prime Minister not only shared but also praised the speech that insulted Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis.”

Gogoi highlighted the significance of the caste census for many communities in India, particularly those belonging to SC, ST, and OBC. He emphasized that the Congress party’s protest is a fight for the rights of marginalized communities and the importance of the caste census in ensuring their representation and recognition.

“We are here fighting for their right, fighting for the caste census, and that is why we protested,” Gogoi asserted, reiterating the Congress party’s commitment to advocating for the respect and recognition of these communities within the legislative framework.
