Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes BJP Over Nameplate Issue and CAA Focus
Guwahati, 20th July: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the issue of nameplates on food shops along the Kanwar route in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that the party has resorted to communal politics following setbacks in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Gogoi stated, “After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is in trouble… It has returned to the path of communal politics. They have forgotten that the people of the nation have rejected communal politics.”
The controversy arose after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the installation of nameplates for proprietors of all eateries and restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra route. This decision, aimed at maintaining the purity of the Kanwar pilgrims’ faith, was reported by the news agency ANI, citing an order from the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Gogoi further accused the BJP of ignoring pressing local issues in Assam by focusing on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He pointed out that many residents in Assam lack Aadhaar cards, preventing them from accessing essential ration supplies. Additionally, he highlighted the exclusion of numerous Bengali Hindus from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) list.
“In Assam, people don’t have Aadhaar cards, because of which they are unable to get ration,” Gogoi said. “Many Bengali Hindus are not in the NRC list. Instead of solving their problems, the ruling state government of BJP wants to implement CAA. Himanta Biswa Sarma says that only 8-9 people have applied for citizenship under CAA in Assam. He has ended the Assam Accord for just 8-9 people,” added Gogoi.
The Congress MP’s remarks come amidst growing criticism of the BJP’s policies and their impact on local populations, highlighting the ongoing political tension in the region.
