Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Demands Answers on VP Dhankhar’s “Shocking” Resignation

Guwahati: The political circles in New Delhi were abuzz today as Gaurav Gogoi, the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, expressed his “shock” over the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Gogoi, a prominent voice from Assam, took to X on Tuesday to raise pertinent questions for the Union government, demanding clarity on whether they had any prior intimation and a concrete plan for a smooth transition of power.

Gogoi’s remarks come swiftly after Vice President Dhankhar tendered his resignation on Monday evening, citing medical reasons. The resignation, effective immediately, was sent to President Droupadi Murmu, leaving many speculating about the underlying circumstances.

“The resignation of the Hon’ble Vice President is both sudden and shocking. I wish good health to respected Dhankar ji,” Gogoi posted, extending his well wishes even as he pressed for transparency. He further highlighted a detail that, in light of the resignation, now seems particularly significant: “The absence of senior ministers yesterday at a meeting chaired by the Hon’ble Vice President now carries even more significance.” This observation suggests that the Congress might be hinting at a deeper narrative beyond the stated medical reasons for Dhankhar’s departure. The government is yet to issue a detailed statement addressing Gogoi’s concerns.
