Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Firm Amidst FIR and Political Turbulence
Guwahati, 19th January: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on January 19 stood firm amidst political turbulence, stating that neither he nor his party would be intimidated by the filing of an FIR or any pressure. This response came after the Jorhat Police lodged an FIR against the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, alleging a deviation from the approved route.
Gogoi asserted, “The people are with us. We will not be scared of anyone or any FIR. In a democracy, no government can stop us…” Despite the legal challenge, he emphasized the people’s support and the resilient spirit of democracy.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, daring the Assam government to arrest party workers and supporters, maintaining that no rules were violated. The Congress party saw the FIR as an attempt to hinder the yatra’s success but remained steadfast, ready to continue advocating for justice and unity.
