Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Leads Rally in Support of Tanzil Hussain Ahead of Assam By-Elections

Samaguri– Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi joined forces with Tanzil Hussain in a rally aimed at energizing support for the upcoming by-elections in Assam.

The event underscores Tanzil, the son of Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, as he aims to become the youngest MLA in Assam if he wins the November 13 polls.

On October 20, the Indian National Congress (INC) officially announced its candidates for the by-elections in five constituencies across Assam.

Tanzil Hussain will contest from Samaguri, a seat formerly held by his father. Rakibul Hussain previously triumphed in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, securing a substantial victory margin of 10,12,476 votes.

The assembly by-elections will be conducted in the following constituencies:

  • Dholai (SC)
  • Sidli (ST)
  • Bongaigaon
  • Behali
  • Samaguri

These seats became vacant following the recent Lok Sabha elections. In addition to Hussain, the Congress has nominated Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha for Dholai, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, and Brajenjit Sinha for Bongaigaon.

The electoral landscape is further intensified by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has also announced its candidates for the by-elections. Nihar Ranjan Das will contest in Dholai, Diganta Ghatowar in Behali, and Diplu Ranjan Sarma will challenge Tanzil Hussain in Samaguri, promising a competitive race.

In a broader electoral strategy, the INC has also unveiled candidates for two constituencies in Madhya Pradesh: Mukesh Malhotra will contest from Vijaypur, and Rajkumar Patel will run from Budhni. This move illustrates the party’s commitment to regaining influence in traditional strongholds while preparing for upcoming elections across the nation.
