Congress MP Gogoi: ‘Floods in Assam but BJP busy topping Maharashtra government’
Guwahati: Congress member Gaurav Gogoi poked fun at the BJP by comparing it to the political turmoil in Maharashtra, which the Assam administration is occupied with despite the state’s flood situation, which is getting worse by the day on Thursday.
Along with Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde, who has revolted against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, more than thirty Shiv Sena MLAs are camped out at a posh hotel in Guwahati.
“Floods are the crisis, if there is one. Power has made the BJP blind. Floods are occurring in Assam; the prime minister ought to visit the region and announce a special package, but he is instead focused on overthrowing the Maharashtra government or on the elections in Gujarat. For the BJP, power is everything “ANI news agency cited Gaurav Gogoi as saying.
Following a daylong stay at a five-star hotel in Surat, Eknath Shinde and more than 30 MLAs arrived in Assam early on Wednesday morning.
Shinde continued to criticise the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, calling the NCP-Sena-Congress alliance “an artificial partnership” despite Uddhav Thackeray’s emotional speech in which he expressed his willingness to resign.
Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena has, however, made it plain that Thakceray will not resign. Uddhav on Wednesday night went from the official mansion, “Varsha,” to “Matoshree” in another significant step that triggered a show of strength from the party carte.
Over 100 people have already perished in Assam as a result of the flooding. 99,026 hectares of cropland have already been inundated, and more than 5.45 million people are still affected.
In the middle of Assam’s connection to the political turmoil in Maharashtra, the chief minister of Assam made a statement that angered the opposition. “We should be pleased if all of the luxurious hotels in Guwahati are filled because that will generate income. We will make money from the GST, and we are in need of it right now as a result of the state’s disastrous floods. When the majority of our hotels are vacant or have poor occupancy during this time, why should we turn away Goddess Lakshmi? “PTI news agency cited Himanta Biswa Sarma as saying.
