Congress MP Gogoi Questions PM Modi’s Responsibility Over NEET Issue

National Desk, 22nd July: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has raised serious concerns regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) issue, highlighting significant lapses in the administration and implementation of the medical entrance exam.

During today’s Question Hour in Parliament, the NEET issue was slated as the second item on the agenda. However, according to Gogoi, before the matter could be addressed, Prime Minister Modi left the session. Gogoi questioned the Prime Minister’s decision to leave, arguing that it is Modi’s responsibility to provide answers on the NEET issue.

Additionally, Gogoi criticized Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has faced calls for resignation over the controversy. When asked to resign, Pradhan allegedly responded arrogantly, stating that he was appointed by the Prime Minister and would not step down.

Rahul Gandhi also took the floor to criticise Education Minister Pradhan for not adequately addressing the NEET issue. Gandhi asserted that the issue is crucial for the youth and accused the government of avoiding discussions in Parliament. He emphasized that NEET is not the only examination with problems and suggested that the entire examination system needs reform. Gandhi assured that the Congress party will continue to press the government on this matter, stating, “It is obvious to the whole country that there is a very serious problem in our examination system, not just in NEET but in all the major examinations.”

Gandhi further questioned the government’s actions, asking, “As this is a systematic issue, what exactly are you doing to fix this issue?”

The Supreme Court has also begun hearing a batch of petitions related to the controversy-ridden NEET-UG 2024. During the hearing, it was revealed that the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the exam, admitted to a paper leak and the dissemination of the leaked question paper via WhatsApp. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra inquired about the declaration of centre-wise and city-wise results of the exam.

The ongoing issue has sparked widespread debate and demands for accountability from the government, with Congress leaders continuing to push for clarity and action on the NEET controversy.
