Congress MP Jairam Ramesh Slams Govt for Excluding Party Consultation in Delegation, Criticizes Politicisation of Operation Sindoor
New Delhi: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has strongly criticised the central government’s approach to sending an all-party delegation to key international partner countries to showcase India’s fight against terrorism and highlight #OperationSindoor. While welcoming the initiative of sending Indian representatives abroad, Ramesh raised serious concerns over the exclusion of the Congress party from the consultation process.
“If it was important for the Congress MPs to be in the list, there should have been a discussion with the party leaders,” said Ramesh. “They could have asked us to give the names. In our country, political parties are the life of democracy. Parties form the government, not the other way around.”
He accused the government of undermining democratic norms, saying, “What type of politics is this? Will you decide the names of our MPs going in the delegation? We have no issues with the names that have been chosen — they are my good friends and experienced leaders — but the process is wrong. This is a notorious process, and it should not have been done.”
On India’s global outreach against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and the success of Operation Sindoor, Ramesh reiterated Congress’ support to the armed forces. “We have seen unity and solidarity since April 22 and salute Operation Sindoor. It is a tremendous success for our armed forces. Congress has always maintained that we will never play politics with national security.”
However, he strongly condemned what he termed as the “politicisation” of Operation Sindoor. Citing recent controversies, he said, “The Madhya Pradesh minister defamed Sofiya Qureshi, professors are being arrested, NDA Chief Ministers are selectively invited to meetings. Now, railway tickets are being issued with photographs of the Prime Minister and Operation Sindoor — this is an extreme case of politicisation. We are firmly against this.”
Ramesh’s statement signals growing political tension over the government’s handling of national security initiatives and raises fresh concerns about inclusivity in matters of international representation.
