Congress Protests Nationwide Over Sonia Gandhi’s Appearance Before ED

Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) protested over Sonia Gandhi’s Thursday appearance before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the National Herald case at Rajib Bhawan in Guwahati.

The Congress employees attempt to breach the barricades while security personnel drag the workers to apprehend them. Other party leaders detained during the demonstration include Bhupen Bora and Ankita Dutta.

The agitators shouted, “We are protesting because these agencies have turned partial. Listen to some more comments from the Congress leaders!”

Congress employees are protesting against Sonia’s interrogation in Guwahati, where a confrontation-like situation has arisen.

In the midst of the Congress protests in Delhi, Congress leaders Sachin Pilot, Jairam Ramesh, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury all have been arrested.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka have departed for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) headquarters in order to participate in the probe into the National Herald case. The opposition party has organised a number of demonstrations, or “Satyagrahas,” across the states today in response to her attendance.

On Thursday, the Congress denounced the Modi administration for “misusing” investigation agencies against opposition figures and protested Sonia Gandhi’s summons from the Enforcement Directorate.

Senior Congressman and Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot criticised the ED’s decision to question Sonia Gandhi and suggested that the investigation agency first conduct a news conference to outline the specific accusations that are being investigated. At a press conference, he said, “I reject the ED decision of calling Sonia Gandhi for questioning.”

He stated, citing other instances, “The ED should have gone to her residence to take her responses to their questions,” adding that this is being done to harass her.
