Congress releases Mizoram election manifesto; promises LPG cylinders at Rs 750, health insurance up to Rs 15 lakh for non-govt employees

Northeast Desk, 24th October: The Congress party has unveiled its election manifesto for the upcoming Mizoram elections. They are committed to various initiatives, including providing LPG cylinders at a cost of Rs 750, reviving an old pension scheme with a monthly benefit of Rs 2,000, and offering health insurance coverage up to Rs 15 lakh. Additionally, they pledge to implement various welfare schemes if they secure victory in the Northeastern state.

Ronald Sapa Tlai, the spokesperson of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), emphasized the party’s goal of establishing an efficient, transparent, and corruption-free administration. Their vision includes empowering local governance by granting more authority, responsibilities, and financial resources to village councils and local bodies.

The Congress party’s agenda extends to infrastructure development, encompassing enhancements in connectivity, airports, and electricity supply within the state. They also aim to support farmers and budding entrepreneurs through the Young Mizo Entrepreneurs Program (YmElevate), offering startup funding and aspiring to create 100,000 jobs for Mizo youth. The manifesto further outlines plans to extend health insurance coverage of up to Rs 15 lakhs to families without government employees.

The party has allocated a budget of Rs 5 crores for terminally ill patients and intends to raise the Old Age Pension to Rs 2,000 per month. Subsidized LPG gas priced at Rs 750 per cylinder will be accessible to those holding AAY and PHH cards, as well as families led by women. The Congress party also intends to increase support for widows and individuals with disabilities under the National Social Assistance Program to Rs 2,000 per month.
