Congress Slams Amit Shah’s Remarks on Peace in Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast

Guwahati: The Congress party has criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “bizarre” remarks claiming that peace has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast. The party accused Shah of making assertions meant to divert attention from his own “colossal failures”.

Shah had claimed that the 11 years of the Modi government was a “golden period” of resolve, endeavour, and dedication towards public service. He stated that Naxalism is on its last legs, peace has been established in Jammu-Kashmir and the Northeast, and India now responds to terrorist attacks by entering the homes of terrorists.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh responded to Shah’s remarks, saying that they were “bizarre” given the ongoing violence in Manipur and the fact that the Pahalgam attackers were still at large. Ramesh accused Shah of trying to divert attention from his own failures.

Ramesh highlighted the ongoing issues in Manipur, saying that the state continues to burn and the President’s Rule has been a miserable failure. He also pointed out that the terrorists responsible for the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam have still not been brought to justice.

Ramesh criticised Shah’s tenure as Union Home Minister, saying that it has been marked by “Maximum Boasts, Minimum Achievements”. He added that Shah has failed miserably in bringing the Pahalgam terrorists to justice and in bringing about normalcy in Manipur.
