Congress to Release ‘Black Paper’ Amidst Political Tension

National Desk, 8th February: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the impending release of a ‘Black Paper,’ targeting the Modi government and highlighting perceived threats to democracy under its tenure. Kharge’s declaration comes in response to the Union Government’s plans to unveil a ‘White Paper’ scrutinizing the UPA’s decade-long rule.

Speaking at a press briefing, Kharge underscored the alleged danger to democracy in the country, citing BJP’s purported efforts to topple Congress-led state governments over the past decade. He pointed out that 411 MLAs were purportedly lured away by the BJP, resulting in the downfall of numerous Congress administrations. “They are finishing democracy,” Kharge asserted.

The revelation by the Congress leader intensifies the political atmosphere, setting the stage for a clash of divergent narratives on governance and economic stewardship. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier indicated the government’s intention to present a ‘White Paper’ assessing India’s economic trajectory pre and post-2014, aiming to contrast the performance during the UPA and NDA regimes.

As the parliamentary landscape brims with anticipation, the session is extended by a day, purportedly to accommodate the unveiling of the government’s ‘White Paper.’ This extension holds significance as it marks the final session of the current House before the impending Lok Sabha elections, adding further weight to the unfolding political drama.
