Congress Triumphs in Chamguri Panchayat Polls, Challenging BJP’s Electoral Dominance

Guwahati: In a significant development from the recently concluded panchayat elections spanning the four districts of Chamguri, the Congress party has emerged as a dominant force, securing victories by substantial margins.

This outcome has stirred considerable political discourse, particularly given the customary trend of the ruling party gaining an advantage in such local elections.

The unexpected success of the Congress in Chamguri has prompted questions regarding the necessity of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s involvement in the forthcoming state assembly elections. This victory is viewed by many as a notable setback for the BJP, especially considering the concerted efforts reportedly made to influence the voting outcomes in these constituencies.

Rakibul Hussain, a key figure within the Congress, has asserted that the BJP’s strategies to sway voters in Chamguri proved ineffective, highlighting the clear mandate received by Congress candidates despite the ruling party’s endeavors. He further commented on the broader political scenario, pointing out the BJP’s inability to translate its Lok Sabha election gains in Bilasipara and Goalpara to the recent panchayat polls.

Hussain also directed criticism towards Chief Minister Sarma, questioning his alleged oversight of substantial financial resources that have purportedly been redirected away from their intended developmental schemes. Furthermore, Hussain alluded to the perceived silence of the Chief Minister on the connection between Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Pakistan following the panchayat election results, suggesting that the public has discerned the implications of this avoidance.
