Northeast Desk, 29th March: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Manipur, the Congress party has revealed its roster of star campaigners, featuring prominent figures such as Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. With a lineup of 40 influential individuals, the party aims to present a formidable front and rally support for its candidates.
Dr. Bimol Akoijam, contesting as the Congress candidate for the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency, outlined his decision to enter electoral politics, citing concerns about the gradual erosion of Manipur’s historical unity and coherence. Addressing media representatives at the Imphal International Airport, Dr. Bimol emphasized the need for a revitalized vision to reverse the trend and forge a renewed Manipur.
Expressing dismay over barriers encountered by Meiteis, such as Kanglatongbi and Phougakchao Ikhai, Dr. Bimol underscored the urgency of addressing these issues to restore respect and prestige to the region. Reflecting on the governance under the BJP administration, Dr. Bimol highlighted persistent challenges facing Manipur, prompting his alignment with the Congress party due to its robust organizational framework and ideological alignment.
Dr. Bimol elaborated on his transition into electoral politics, stating, “Despite voicing concerns as a conscientious voter, the government’s deafening silence propelled me to actively work towards effecting tangible changes as a representative.” His decision to enter politics was driven by the need to address prevailing circumstances and contribute to shaping Manipur’s future.
