Conrad Sangma Appoints 27-Member National Committee to Lead NPP Through 2025–2028

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K. Sangma has officially appointed 27 members to the party’s National Committee for the 2025–2028 tenure.

The new committee will be led by CM Sangma himself, consolidating the party’s leadership structure ahead of key political developments in the region.

The appointments, formally announced by Sangma, include close family members such as his brother James PK Sangma, sister Agatha K Sangma, and wife Mehtab A Sangma.

James PK Sangma, who previously served as National General Secretary (Organisation), has now been elevated to the role of Working President of the National Committee.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon me, I hereby notify the appointment of the office bearers of the National Committee of the National People’s Party for the tenure 2025-2028,” said Conrad Sangma in an official notification.

The committee features a mix of experienced legislators and emerging leaders, including six sitting MLAs—three from Arunachal Pradesh, two women MLAs from Meghalaya, and one MLA from Manipur—reflecting the party’s pan-Northeast strategy.

The restructuring comes in the wake of a resolution adopted during the NPP’s General Body meeting held on March 15, 2025. The new national body is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding the party’s reach and influence across the northeastern region while preparing for upcoming electoral battles.
