Continuous Rains Devastate Tokchi Village in Pakyong District, Families Urge Immediate Government Aid
Northeast Desk, 28th September: Tokchi village in Sikkim’s Pakyong district has been hit hard by relentless rainfall over the past two days, leaving several families in distress as homes, walls, and kitchens have been washed away. The severe weather has upended the lives of villagers, with many now calling for urgent assistance from the district administration and the government.
The heavy rains have caused significant damage, leaving many residents struggling to recover from the destruction. Families who had once benefited from government housing schemes are now appealing for renewed support as they face the daunting task of rebuilding their homes.
“We request the district administration of Pakyong district to visit the affected families and assess the damage. The government must conduct a site visit and provide houses under the ‘Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission’ (CMRHM),” said a family member, urging swift action. The families are also calling on disaster management authorities to release emergency funds to aid those hardest hit by the natural calamity.
The families, already recipients of housing under a prior government initiative, are now left with little to no shelter. “I request the Chief Minister to look into the issue and ensure that necessary funds and housing are provided under the ‘Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission’ (CMRHM),” the family member added.
The villagers remain hopeful that the government will step in to provide the assistance they need to recover and rebuild their lives after this devastating event.
